Dr. Salsman is an assistant professor of political economy at Duke University. He is the author of six books, including Gold and Liberty (1995), The Political Economy of Public Debt (2017), Where Have All the Capitalists Gone? (2021), and Pocketguide to Capitalism (2022). He is founder and president of InterMarket Forecasting, Inc., a senior scholar at The Atlas Society, and a senior fellow at the American Institute for Economic Research. He earned a  B.A. from Bowdoin College, an M.B.A. from New York University, and a Ph.D. from Duke University. In the 1980s and 1990s he worked as a banker and investment advisor in New York and Boston.
